Learn Comanche is a non-profit ongoing project to reference, produce and distribute materials for learning the Comanche language as well as to link up a community of people of all ages who want to acquire some facility in this Native American language. Although we are blessed that there are fluent speakers of Comanche still living, the language is in danger of dying out as many Native American languages have. Maintaining Comanche culture depends on thinking in the language, knowing the story of and understanding the beliefs, values and folk tales of a people. We hope to make a contribution to restoring the language.

Comanche is a Uto-Aztecan language most closely related to Eastern Shoshone. Through most of its life Comanche has been only a spoken culture. The Comanche Language and Cultural Preservation Committee (CLCPC) of Comanche Nation has played an important role in standardizing a written system for the language and in producing some of the best learning materials to date.

The best way to learn Comanche is through immersion. Comanche Nation offers an excellent immersion program which is open only to enrolled tribal members. Instructional materials are all that is available to many of us. The purpose of our site is to provide links to help students of Comanche obtain language materials as well as to follow our podcast and web site. We are on FaceBook, YouTube, Flickr and the iTunes Store as well as in the virtual world of Second Life.
