Learn Comanche is a non-profit organization working on teaching the grammar of the Comanche language.
The Comanche language (Numunu Tekwapu) is an endangered Native-American language closely related to Shoshone from which it is derived.
Through the academic work of linguists, the grammar of the Comanche language is fairly well-documented. This body of literature, however, was not written for the purpose of language instruction and is very technical in nature. Language preservation and restoration efforts by Comanche Nation and its organizations have tended to focus on immersion methods, periodic opportunities to interact with elder native speakers and the compilation of a dictionary.
The longterm goals of Learn Comanche are to provide a learning grammar textbook for non-linguists, a free online certificate course and a more extensive dictionary in terms of documenting word usage. Present status of these projects as well as links to other resources will be provided on this web site. Please contact us through our Facebook site.
